Join us for an education session on “Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) in Adolescents” with Debra Braun-Courville, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine Fellowship Program Director, Division of Adolescent Young Adult Health, Department of Pediatrics, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Adolescents face unique biological, behavioral, and social factors that increase their vulnerability to sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This session will provide an overview of the most common STIs affecting adolescents and review current best practices for screening, testing, and treatment. Participants will also explore strategies for addressing confidentiality and creating a supportive clinical environment that encourages adolescents to seek appropriate sexual health care.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Outline reasons why adolescents are at increased risk for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
  • Understand causes of the most common STIs
  • Review guidelines for STI screening, testing and treatment of STIs in adolescents
  • Facilitate discussion regarding confidentiality and STI testing/treatment
