BC/BE Pediatrician
Description:
The Department of Pediatrics at Meharry Medical College is seeking a board certified (or board eligible) pediatrician to join a well-established, friendly, hard-working practice in Nashville, Tennessee. This position offers a faculty appointment as Assistant Professor (or higher if prior academic teaching experience). Candidates are expected to demonstrate excellence in clinical medicine and a commitment to teaching and scholarly activity.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting. Ensure proper injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
- Assess patient health by interviewing patients, performing physical examinations, obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.
- Examine patient and diagnose patient’s injury or illness. Institute therapy or referrals of patient to the appropriate health care facilities, agencies, or other resources of the community.
- Determine normal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies, interpreting test results.
- Interpret and evaluate patient data to determine patient management and treatment.
- Explain procedure and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
- Institute emergency measures and emergency treatment or appropriate stabilization measures in situations such as cardiac arrest, shock, hemorrhage, and convulsions.
- Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
- Perform therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations, suturing, managing wounds and infections.
- Take call on weekdays, weekends and holidays in rotation with other pediatric providers.
- Precept residents and students in the clinical setting.
- Teach Meharry trainees including residents, medical, dental, graduate, allied health and physician assistant students.
- Participate in college, school and departmental committee work, curriculum development, professional growth and other such assignments.
Qualifications:
- Medical Degree (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic (D.O.)
- Graduate of an accredited residency program in pediatrics
- Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Tennessee
- Must be board certified (or board eligible) at hire and will be expected to maintain appropriate board certification, licensure, and membership in professional organizations.
